Updated FAB 50 National Rankings

For the second consecutive week, five new teams crack the GrassrootsHoops.net FAB 50, including fast-rising Christ the King (Middle Village, N.Y.). There were more state champs crowned around the country over the weekend, but from a rankings perspective the big news came off the court as Georgia Class AAAAAA champ and FAB 50 No. 6 Wheeler was granted permission to participate at Dick’s Nationals in New York in April.

Ben Simmons, the best player on the nation’s top-ranked team, continues to lead the pack in the Grassroots Hoops Mr. Basketball USA Tracker. The best player on the No. 2 ranked team in the FAB 50 and a few others on winning teams make inroads as the voting process produces a reduced set of viable national player of the year candidates.

New FAB 50 National Rankings

Five new teams crack this week’s GrassrootsHoops.net FAB 50, including fast-rising Garfield (Seattle, Wash.), which won the Washington Class 3A state title over previously ranked Rainier Beach (Seattle, Wash.). Rainier Beach is one of those teams that could climb back in the rankings if results involving other teams break in its favor and based on which teams are invited — and do well — at Dick’s Nationals in New York to end the season.

On the eve of the McDonald’s All-American roster announcement, the voting process produces an expanded set of national player of the year candidates from the preseason.

New FAB 50 National Rankings

There are only four new teams in the GrassrootsHoops.net FAB 50, but for the second consecutive week there is a new No. 1 after previous No. 1 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) went down at the Penny Hardaway HoopFest. The new No. 1 is a familiar team to coaches, players and fans who follow the rankings. Among the four newcomers, Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.) is the highest ranked at No. 44.

Top News 3 576The New Year brings big changes to the GrassrootsHoops.net FAB 50, as Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) takes over the No. 1 spot. The big rankings question this week is what to do with previous No. 1 Montverde Academy and the Wheeler (Marietta, Ga.) team that beat the Eagles. There are 14 newcomers to the rankings with the highest being No. 16 Patrick School (Elizabeth, N.J .), which could be in hot water with the NJSIAA.

We began with teams No. 31-50 on Sunday, continued with teams No. 16-30 and now have published an in-depth look at the nation’s 50 best teams. Montverde Academy of Florida is the preseason No. 1 team for the third consecutive season.
