Tarkanian Classic Semifinal Recap

It will be a Redondo Union-Putnam City West championship game in the Tarkanian Classic Platinum Division, as Redondo Union squeaks out a win over FAB 50 No. 12 Corona Centennial. No. 33 Putnam City West pulls out a buzzer-beating overtime win over Las Vegas Bishop Gorman. Read on for analysis and comments from winners.

New FAB 50 National Rankings

Basketball FAB 50 IllustrationBy There’s little change at the top in the second GrassrootsHoops.net FAB 50 rankings of the 2014-15 regular season, as only one team joins the top 25. There is plenty of change among the second 25, as teams jockey for position heading into the major holiday tournaments the next two weeks. There are nine newcomers to the rankings with the highest being No. 36 Sagemont (Weston, Fla.).

We began with teams No. 31-50 on Sunday, continued with teams No. 16-30 and now have published an in-depth look at the nation’s 50 best teams. Montverde Academy of Florida is the preseason No. 1 team for the third consecutive season.

Friday Tarkanian Classic Recap

It will be an all-California final in the Platinum Division of the Tarkanian Classic with Student Sports FAB 50 No. 6 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) taking on No. 27 Bishop O’Dowd. In the Prep Division, the nation’s No. 2 ranked team goes down as Prime Prep (Ft. Worth, Texas) rebounds from its first loss on Thursday to down Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.). Findlay Prep’s loss is sure to shake up the next set of FAB 50 rankings after the New Year’s holiday.
