Updated FAB 50 National Rankings

March 17, 2014 by Ronnie Flores Leave a Comment

A couple of playoff upsets allow Jefferson of Portland to crack the Top 25 of the Student Sports FAB 50. The Democrats won a state title in a most unusual fashion among top teams around the country wrapping up their seasons. Teams that end their season with a state title or are still competing for one have a rankings advantage this week, but an entire seasonal resume will be taken into greater consideration once the season is complete. The Dick’s Nationals bracket will also cause some movement in the final FAB 50 of the season scheduled for April 7.

Making Sense Of Curie Mess

March 5, 2014 by Ronnie Flores 1 Comment

It’s been a tumultuous 12 days for Curie (Chicago) with most of the news surrounding its top-rated basketball team away from the court. While Curie’s plight brought national attention to Chicago basketball, the Condors finally returned to the court on Tuesday — and promptly saw their season end in an overtime loss. We examine the situation from the perspective of respected national rankings compilers and examine Cliff Alexander’s national player of the year candidacy.

Rainier Beach’s Big Opportunity

February 26, 2014 by Ronnie Flores Leave a Comment

On Wednesday the Washington Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) waived regulations that restricted member school Rainier Beach (Seattle) from potentially participating in the Dick’s Sporting Goods National High School Tournament in April. This decision could have long-term ramifications towards the goal of crowning a true national high school basketball championship on the court.

New FAB 50 National Rankings

February 10, 2014 by Ronnie Flores Leave a Comment

Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.) falls from the top 10 after a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference loss to newcomer O’Connell (Arlington, Va.). The Panthers remain in the top 25 because of their overall strength of schedule and a victory later in the week over DeMatha Catholic. The upcoming WCAC playoffs and other section post-season games are sure to cause changes in the next two weeks after this week brings only four newcomers to the FAB 50.
