ESPN TV Schedule Announced

Top News 576Eleven games across ESPN family of networks began December 8. Grassroots Hoops FAB 50 No. 1 Montverde Academy to appear twice, including December 12 matchup with No. 6 Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland, Calif.). Bishop O’Dowd and No. 2 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) also will appear twice.

Final No. 1 teams are Oak Hill Academy (East), Montverde Academy (Southeast), Indianapolis Arsenal Tech (Midwest), Galena North Shore (Southwest) and Santa Ana Mater Dei (West).

New FAB 50 National Rankings

Whitney Young of Chicago clinches final top 10 ranking by capturing Illinois Class 4A state title. State champions also crowned in New York, Michigan and New Jersey. We actually waited to release this week’s rankings to include Monday’s New Jersey Tournament of Champions final. The season has two weeks left with state champions crowned in California this weekend and the Dick’s Sporting Goods National High School Tournament concluding on April 5.

Updated FAB 50 National Rankings

A couple of playoff upsets allow Jefferson of Portland to crack the Top 25 of the Student Sports FAB 50. The Democrats won a state title in a most unusual fashion among top teams around the country wrapping up their seasons. Teams that end their season with a state title or are still competing for one have a rankings advantage this week, but an entire seasonal resume will be taken into greater consideration once the season is complete. The Dick’s Nationals bracket will also cause some movement in the final FAB 50 of the season scheduled for April 7.

Updated FAB 50 National Rankings

FAB 50 576Loyola of Los Angeles and Arlington Country Day of Jacksonville fall from the top 10 after on-court losses last week. Arlington Country Day’s loss was later ruled a forfeit victory while Loyola loses final game of the regular season before jumping into the loaded CIF Southern Section Open Division playoffs this week. Top-ranked Curie of Chicago could meet No. 8 Whitney Young on Friday for Chicago Public League title if both win Wednesday semifinal contests.

Mater Dei Downs Whitney Young

Student Sports FAB 50 No. 4 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) remains unbeaten and in the mythical national title hunt with a big home victory over No. 6 Whitney Young (Chicago) in the marquee game of the Nike Extravaganza. Renowned program DeMatha of Maryland also remains unbeaten against California opponents. Three other FAB50-ranked teams are also victorious.
