Top News 3 576The New Year brings big changes to the GrassrootsHoops.net FAB 50, as Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) takes over the No. 1 spot. The big rankings question this week is what to do with previous No. 1 Montverde Academy and the Wheeler (Marietta, Ga.) team that beat the Eagles. There are 14 newcomers to the rankings with the highest being No. 16 Patrick School (Elizabeth, N.J .), which could be in hot water with the NJSIAA.

Findlay Prep, Sierra Canyon Keep Pace

Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.) keeps pace with Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) in the Grassroots Hoops FAB 50 with a victory over Our Savior New American (Centereach, N.Y.) at the Hoophall West Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) notches another quality win after capturing Maxpreps Holiday Classic with a victory over previously unbeaten DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, Md.).

Maxpreps HC Semis Set

Three of the four teams in the semifinals of the Maxprep Holiday Classic Open Division bracket hail from California, with the fourth entrant emerging from the South — Pebblebrook (Ga.). The Georgia club will face four-time defending  California state champion Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) with Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) facing Etiwanda (Calif.) in the other semi.

Tarkanian Classic Predictions

We decided to have a bit of fun and predict the Platinum Division bracket of the Tarkanian Classic. We’d like to read what you think about our predictions and would like to see your mock bracket in the comments section below. The two main points to take away is this was done in good fun because about a dozen teams can beat any other team in the field on any given day, and that national rankings are not necessarily a predictor of games.

There is plenty of change among the second 25, as teams jockey for position heading into the major holiday tournaments the next two weeks. There are nine newcomers to the rankings with the highest being No. 36 Sagemont (Weston, Fla.).
