FAB 50: Highest Ranked Teams Ever

Here is a state-by-state list of the highest end-of-season rankings for boys’ basketball teams since this poll began in 1987-88.

Teams on the state-by-state list that ended ranked No. 1 nationally include, among many others:

*Philadelphia Simon Gratz’s 1991 squad that featured sophomore Rasheed Wallace, who plays for the New York Knicks. 

*Oak Hill Academy’s club from 1993 led by Jerry Stackhouse

*Dallas Lincoln’s 2002 squad led by Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh

*Indianapolis Lawrence North’s 2006 team led by Mr. Basketball USA Greg Oden

*Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary’s of 2003 with Bosh’s teammate, LeBron James.

Note: Highest final national ranking is listed following year, with ties broken by choosing the team GrassrootsHoops.net editors determined to be strongest. Some states have never had a team nationally ranked. Several states have never had teams earn even a final top 20 regional ranking, but perhaps your team will change that this season.
