THE HOOP SCOOP'S EXCLUSIVE RANKING OF THE TOP PLAYERS AT SLAM DUNK TO THE BEACH BASED BOTH ON PERFORMANCE AND COLLEGE POTENTIAL
by Clark Francis & Allen Rubin

1. Eddie Griffin, 6'9, Sr, PF, Philadelphia (Roman Catholic) PA - not only gets our vote as the #1 player in the nation, but is also one of the most consistent - he rarely has a bad game...makes the spectacular look easy, which was especially evident with several dunks against Columbia (Keenan) SC...sometimes is too smooth for his own good, because it looks like he isn't playing hard...but he also has moments when he's just as electrifying as 6'9 Darius Miles from East St. Louis (H.S.) IL, who is the most talented player nationally in the class...is a great shot blocker, outstanding rebounder, and a good shooter out to 20 feet...needs to get stronger and tougher, which is why several years of college basketball is a must...Seton Hall got a great one!

2.  Jerome Harper, 6'5, Sr, 2G, Columbia (Keenan) SC - was the best 3-point shooter in the tournament, as he singlehandedly kept the game against Philadelphia (Roman Catholic) PA close for a long time with a number of long range bombs.  As a result, Harper moves back into our national top five ahead of 6'5 DeShawn Stevenson from Fresno (Washington Union) CA and 6'7 Gerald Wallace from Childersburg (H.S.) AL, who also were vying for the fifth spot.    Like Stevenson and Wallace, he's a phenomenal athlete, but he's more under control and he takes better shots.  That's right!  At 25 feet, he's going to shoot a high percentage...he also has the good enough handling skills to play some point...should be a great one at Cincinnati, which got him to commit in July.

3.  Deshawn Stevenson, 6'5, Sr, 2G, Fresno (Washington Union) CA - is a prototype NBA 2-guard - has the body, athleticism, and range, but when his people start talking about going straight to the league, it's a little ridiculous.  As a matter of fact, two years at Kansas with Roy Williams would not only do him a lot of good, but also might help him tone down his game and shot selection...he's a great shooter from beyond the arc, but he also makes a living off the three point play the old-fashioned way, as was evident against Louisville (Ballard) KY when he hit 13-14 free throws...needs to improve shot selection and continue to work at creating his own shot, instead of just forcing up a 25-footer...  ranks among our top seven seniors nationally.

4. Ivan McFarlan, 6'7, Sr, PF, Sugar Land (Willowridge) TX - the numbers speake for themself - 14 points, 7-9 field goals, and eight rebounds versus Louisville (Ballard) KY; 28 points, 12-15 field goals, and 11 rebounds versus Elizabeth (St. Patrick) NJ; and 14 points, 7-15 field goals, and 12 rebounds versus Philadelphia (Roman Catholic) PA in the championship game.  Especially noteworthy was his blistering 26-39 field goal shooting (67%), but he also was terrific on the boards and the defensive stopper on Willowridge's press...Currently he is ranked at the bottom of our top 100 nationally, but he will move up after his performance here.  What a steal for Oklahoma State, which is where he signed early!

5. Garner Meads, 6'8, Sr, PF, Salt Lake City (Brighton) UT - one of the smartest and most skilled players in the tournament, which is why he ranks among our top 30 nationally even though he doesn't have great athleticism and quickness...great outside shooter, but also has great moves to the basket...Played center in this tournament, because he was the only player on his team with any size since 6'9 Jesse Pinegar is out for two months, but at the next level Meads will be a wing forward...almost singlehandledly beat Bayonne (Marist) NJ with 33 points and had 23 of his team's 34 points in a loss to Rockville (Montrose Christian) MD...Stanford and Utah are still on his list, but we expect him to commit to Brigham Young and it may happen soon.

6.  Herve Lamizana, 6'9, Sr, PF, Elizabeth (St. Patrick) NJ - was sensational against Fresno (Washington Union) CA, as he scored 29 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, and hit 11-15 field goals, including 2-2 3-pointers...he also played well against Tulsa (Booker T. Washington) OK with 21 points and eight rebounds, and six blocks...unfortunately he doesn't play like that all the time, but maybe that will come with time...originally from the Ivory Coast, he's only been in the United States a couple of years, so he's still learning the American game.  And he's come a long way since showing up St. Pat's two years ago...he's far from a finished product, but the sky is the limit, because he has incredible athleticism, long arms, and great timing, which is why we list him a power forward right now.  But down the road, he will likely make the transition out to the wing once his handling skills and outside shot become more consistent.

7. Terrance Ford, 5'11, Jr, PG, Sugar Land (Willowridge) TX - don't worry about how many points this guy scores...he might be the quickest point guard we've ever seen at the high school level - and yes, we did see a guy named Iverson...sometimes he moves too fast even for his teammates (13 turnovers in two game), but unlike Iverson, his mentality is make his teammates better first (15 assists in two games) and worry about points later (only 16 points in two games)...he also is so quick that he makes a living terrorizing opponents at the defensive end (7 steals in two games), but his forte is going the hole...he needs strength, but he's still one of the leading candidates to win any slam dunk contest he enters - he's that quick and athletic!    And if you don't believe it, just ask Louisville (Ballard) KY.

8. Kenny Taylor, 6'3, Jr, 2G, Sugar Land (Willowridge) TX - established his national reputation with 27 points in his team's opening round win aginst Louisville (Ballard) KY...is a lights out three point shooter, as was evident against both Ballard and Philadelphia (Roman Catholic) PA...also is terrific defensively and explosive going to the hole...his ball handling skills have dramatically improved since last summer when he was nothing more than a role player for the Houston Superstars AAU team, so he has to be listed among the fastest rising players nationally in the junior class...as a matter of fact, he is now a lock for our list when next time we update our ranking of the top 100 players nationally in the Class of 2001.

9. James White, 6'7, Jr, WF, Kensington (Newport School) MD - the most exciting player in the tournament, as well as one of the best...has incredible athleticism, explosive leaping ability, and great timing, all of which makes him one of the leading candidates to win any slam dunk contest any at any level...is streaky outside, but should be able to develop into an excellent outside shooter.   Also needs to improve his handling skills and  his overall game needs to become more consistent.  If that happens, he would move onto our list of the top five juniors nationally.  Until then, we'll leave him in the 10-15 range...already a prime target of schools like North Carolina, Duke, Maryland, Florida, Kansas, and Connecticut.

10.  Brian Polk, 6'3, Sr, 2G, Georgetown (Sussex) DE - this ranking may come as a major surprise to many, but Polk was the 2nd leading scorer in the tournament with 30.3 ppg in three games, including a 40 points effort against Wilmington (St. Mark's) DE in the Governor's Cup Consolation Game...Polk isn't currently ranked among our top 350 seniors nationally, but he should be!   As a matter of fact, he's closer to top 100, because he's a big time athlete, as well as a prolific scorer...he also rebounds well for his size, creates his own shot off the dribble, and nails the 3-pointer on a consistant basis...St. Joseph's, Villanova, Rutgers, La Salle, and Temple are all recruiting him and any of those schools would be a great fit, but prep school might be in his future first due to his academics.

11. Olu Babalola, 6'6, Jr, PF, Richland (St. Augustine) NJ - one our Philadelphia/Eastern Pennsylvania/South Jersey Editor Allen Rubin missed on...had one of the most impressive performances of the entire tournament with 33 points and 15 rebounds versus Atlantic City (H.S.) NJ...has only been in the country two years (originally from England), but already is attracting big time looks...physical specimen...is 240 lbs., but is extremely mobile for his size...strong around the basket, but can also step out beyond the arc and make the 3-point shot, as was evident against Atlantic City (H.S.) NJ when he buried several in a row...also has good enough handling skills to help out in the open court...good shot blocker and rebounder...will be ranked among our top 100 nationally in the Class of 2001.

12. Craig Forth, 7'1, Jr, C, East Greenbush (Columbia) NY - was good against Ft. Washington (Germantown Academy) PA with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocks, but that wasn't the game everybody was talking about.    Not only did he score 27 points and grab 17 rebounds against Baltimore (Dunbar) MD, but he displayed enough mobility and skills to escape being labelled a "project" or a "stiff"...the fact that the coach knows how to use him is just an added plus...so is the fact that he is only a junior and has another to get better...has very good low post skills...right now projects among our top 50-100 nationall y in the junior class, but has the potential to move a lot higher.

13. Adam Childes, 6'1, Jr, PG, Louisville (Ballard) KY - Ballard's big guys get most of the attention, but this is the guy who makes this team go...came through in the clutch, as he hit the game winning shot to give his team the victory in the 5th Place game...is usually deadly when he gets in the lane, but in this tournament a lot of those shots didn't fall...his athleticism is matched by only a few in the tournament, but his position is still a question mark - right now he's best described as a combo guard...he has the handling and passing skills to play point at the big time level, but he has yet to develop the mentality and decision making to play the position...he also needs to either grow or become a more consistent outside shooter.

14.  Daniel Ewing, 6'3, Jr, 2G, Sugar Land (Willowridge) TX - normally the second best player on his team, but in this tournament was the forgotten man, because his shot wasn't going down and three of his teammates - 6'7 Ivan McFarlan, 5'11 Jr Terrance Ford, and 6'3 Jr Kenny Taylor - made the all-tournament team.  However, his numbers - 17 points, 6-13 field goals, seven turnovers, and three steals versus Louisville (Ballard) KY; 13 points, 1-8 field goals, 1-3 3-pointers, and 10-13 free throws versus Elizabeth (St. Patrick) NJ; and 11 points, five assists, and four steals against Philadelphia (Roman Catholic) PA; still weren't bad...his forte is usually lighting up the scoring board with his outside shooting, but he's also excellent defensively, in transition, and in the classroom, where he is almost a straight A student.

15.  Walter Price, 6'0, Sr, 2G, Elizabeth (St. Patrick) NJ - the book on Price has always been great outside shooter, but very little else.  Well, against Sugar Land (Willowridge) TX he lived up to his rep, as he hit 5-10 3-pointers en route to a 22 point effort and a near upset in the semi-finals...Price signed early with Long Island University, which is a perfect fit, because he'll get a chance to utitlize his outside firepower, instead of having to worry about trying to run a team.

16. DeShawn Anderson, 6'3, Sr, 2G, Fresno (Washington Union) CA - when Anderson doesn't play well, everybody can key on 6'5 DeShawn Stevenson.  But when Anderson plays like he did against Louisville (Ballard) KY when he had 37 points and hit 7-13 3-point shots, Washington Union is a pretty good team...Anderson is also a phenomenal athlete and he helps provide Washington Union with one of the best 1-2 punches in basketball.  As a matter of fact, they combined for 47 of Washington Union's 70 points versus Elizabeth (St. Patrick) NJ, 65 of Washington Union's 79 points versus Ballard, and 46 of Washingtn Union's 58 points versus Columbia (Keenan) SC...all he needs is more consistency and confidence...Rutgers and Miami-FL are interested, but this might be one somebody could steal...definitely on the rise after his performance here.

17. T.J. Thompson, 5'10, Jr, PG, Kensington (Newport School) MD - was tremendous when he had  29 points, including 4-6 field goals, seven assists, and four steals versus Pennsauken (Bishop Eustace) NJ on the second night, but later proved to be equally lethal to his own team, as he turned the ball over numerous times when Newport lost to Bishop Eustace in triple overtime...needs to work on his decision making.  Currently Thompson is listed as junior, but he is in his 8th semester of high school, so he will not be listed as a senior next year by the HOOP SCOOP.  Instead, he'll be ranked very high on our 5th year list, because, despite his lack of size, he projects a high major player.

18. Keith Jenifer, 6'2, Sr, PG, Towson (Catholic) MD - has a scorer's mentality, but also has the skills and is developing the mentality to be successful playing the point spot at the next level.  As a matter of fact, he's one of the best senior point guards who is still available - just misses being ranked among our top 100 nationally in the senior class...had an excellent assist turnover ratio and provides good  leadership for what already appears to be a good young team.    Grades are still a question, so he may consider going to prep school.

19. Andre Collins, 5'9, Sr, PG, Crifield (H.S.) MD - has to do everything but sell tickets on a team that was otherwise in over their head in this tournament...limited by lack of height, but is a prolific scorer in both transition and beyond the arc...good defender, ballhandler, and passer...we also like his savvy and court awareness, but has yet to get the necessary score on the SAT to go to Maryland, which is something that's been rumored since last fall.

20. Cantrell Fletcher, 5'8, Jr, PG, Philadelphia (St. John Neumann) PA - our Philadelphia/Eastern Pennsylvania/South Jersey Editor Allen Rubin has other players on his team ranked higher, but Fletcher is the best player on the team...has great savvy, knows how to control the game, and is usually in the right place at the right time, as was especially evident by his nine rebounds against Bayonne (Marist) NJ.  He also had eight points and five assists in that game, but even more important, he led his team with 20 points, four assists, and made a number of key plays down the stretch en route to a 54-50 overtime victory against Rockville (Montrose Christian) MD...needs to get stronger and show that he can keep you honest from beyond the arc, but he'll still be ranked among our top 100 juniors nationally.

21. Josh Hill, 6'7, Sr, C, Hockessin (Sanford) DE - what a difference a year could can make!   Hill has always had the skills, but now he's gotten into shape and, as a result, has become a force inside...was one of the leading rebounders in the tournament (14.3 rpg)...also plays hard and has excellent offensive moves around the basket...additional growth would be nice, but still would be a force to be reckoned with if he picks the right mid-major program.

22. Brandon Bender, 6'9, Jr, C, Louisville (Ballard) KY - one of the most talented players in the tournament, but doesn't always go to war like he did the first night against Sugar Land (Willowridge) TX when he had 22 points and 14 rebounds...gets a lot of his points off garbage and dunks inside...excellent rebounder and a more explosive than he looks...lacks heart, as was evident by his lack of effort in the losers bracket games when he had only eight points, six rebounds, and seven turnovers against Fresno (Washington Union) CA and Fayetteville (Seventy-First) NC when he had only six points, and three rebounds...obviously he needs to play harder and stop talking to the officials, the opposing players, the scouts, and anybody who he thinks might be simpathetic to his cause.

23.  Michael Wild, 6'3, Sr, 2G, Philadelphia (Roman Catholic) PA - has emerged as the second option to 6'9 Eddie Griffin, so he should start getting some mid-major looks...is an excellent passer (5.0 apg in the tournament) and has good enough ball handling skills to play some point. However, he's best at the 2-spot, because he is a terrific stationary shooter...add the fact that he's a tough kid and he could be a steal for somebody who is looking for a smart two-guard with poise, savvy, and range.

24. Levi Watkins, 6'7, Jr, PF, Rockville (Montrose Christian) MD - already is the best player in the program and a top 40 junior nationally, because he's active and quick in the paint area...excellent rebounder...very athletic...physical specimen...good defender...needs to develop a consistent mid-range shot or grow some more, because at the highest level (NBA), 6'7 power forwards are a dime a dozen.

25. Cedric Knight, 6'6, Sr, PF, Louisville (Ballard) KY - he wants to be a three, but he's a four all the way...this was especially evident when he was out on the perimeter trying to guard the quick athletic wing players for Sugar Land (Willowridge) TX...he can step out and hit the three once in a while, but he's best on the boards and using his body to power his way to the basket...right now is getting underrecruited, but had better be careful where he goes, because he's a classic tweener.

26.  Mohamed Diakite, 6'11, Sr, Rockville (Montrose Christian) MD - gets ranked among the top 50-100 nationally based on potential and due to the fact there just aren't many players in the senior class with this kind of size and athleticism...is expected to develop into excellent rebounder and good shot blocker, but right now he only shows flashes...needs to develop a killer instinct and become more consistent...the comparison to Seton Hall's Samuel Dalembert is an interesting one, because Diakite does have some skills, but may never put the total package together.

27. Melvin Scott, 6'2, Jr, PG, Baltimore (Southern) MD - nobody he faced here could handle his speed and quickness, plus he didn't have a very good supporting cast, which explains why he had to put up such big numbers...position at the next level is still a question mark, because he doesn't get his teammates involved, as was evident by his zero assists versus Ft. Washington (Germantown) Academy) MD, and he's not big enough and he doesn't shoot it well enough outside to be a big time 2-guard...does have excellent handling skills and is a good defender.

28. Mac Wilkinson, 6'8, Sr, C, Louisville (Ballard) KY - he's getting underrecruited just like his teammate - 6'6 Cedric Knight.  However, unlike Knight, he's two inches bigger, but not as tough or athletic...does have a nice touch and good moves to the basket, but lacks the footspeed and athleticism to get it done against great players his own size...the fact that he's a great kid and a good student should help him get recruited at the mid-major level.

29. Matt Kauderer, 6'5, Sr, PF, Ft. Washington (Germantown Academy) PA - one of our favorite players in the tournament - what a steal for New Hampshire!...what he lacks in footspeed and quickness, he makes up with his warrior-like demeanor...can beat you inside, but at the next level will play almost mostly on the perimeter...excellent 3-point shooter...good rebounder...good passer.

30. Jawod Williams, 6'9, Jr, WF, Lakewood (St. Edward) OH - finesse is his game...his team needed him inside, but all he was concerned about was shooting 3-pointers and playing out on the perimeter...is a world-class athlete with lots of talent and tremendous potential, which is why he's ranked among everybody's top 20 nationally in the Class of 2001, as well as the #1 junior in Ohio.  But if Williams was a stock, now might be a good time to sell.  Not only did his team suffer several disappointing losses, but he gets the Jonathan Bender award as the biggest disappointment of this year's tournament.

31. Tony Cavalieri, 5'11, Sr, PG, Atlantic City (H.S.) NJ - doesn't get the credit that he deserves, because he's so small, but is a hardnosed competitor who makes his teammates better...excellent handling and passing skills...deceptive speed and quickness...also puts up pretty good numbers, as was evident 19 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists against Lewes (Cape Henelopen) DE and 26 points, three assists, and two steals against Richland (St. Augustine) NJ...excellent 3-point shooter...should get recruited at the low-to-mid major level.

32. Michael Joiner, 6'6, Sr, WF, Fayetteville (Seventy-First) NC - was ranked among our top 60 nationally, but had subpar performances against Tulsa (Booker T. Washington) OK and Columbia (Keenan) SC...managed to redeem himself somewhat against Louisville (Ballard) KY with 14 points and 12 rebounds, but still needs to become more of a dominant force...part of the problem may be that he played too much inside and when he did go outside, he didn't hit shots and turned the ball over.    And this is cause for concern, because when he gets to Florida State, he'll be almost exclusively a wing forward...has big time athleticism, quick hands, and explosive quickness...can shoot the three, but needs to develop more of a shooter's mentality.

33. Juan Rozier, 6'3, Sr, WF, Pennsauken (Bishop Eustace) NJ - has a knack of finding a way to score - was one of the leading scorers in the tournament with 26 points versus Georgetown (Sussex) DE and 23 points versus Kensington (Newport School) MA...also was one of the best athletes in the tournament, so it is no surprise that his forte is slashing to the basket...his position for the next level is a question mark.  So is his outside shooting.  Still, he's an intriguing prospect for the mid-major level.

34. Marvin Lewis, 6'3, Sr, 2G, Rockville (Montrose Christian) MD - one of the best 3-point shooters in the class, but hasn't shown it here, because he's been getting over the flu...also doesn't have super athleticism or the quickness necessary to create his own shot...instead, he has to beat you with his smarts and skills (has a 4.0 gpa)...is a good get for Georgia Tech and ranked among top 40 nationally when he's healthy.

35.  Sean Mulholland, 6'0, Sr, 2G, Pennsauken (Bishop Eustace) NJ - one of the best 3-point shooters in the tournament...plays smart, gets the most out of his ability, and comes up big at crunch time, which was especially evident in the triple overtime game against Kensington (Newport School) MD when he hit several big shots in overtime...was recruited by La Salle, which is where he signed in the fall, as a point guard, but almost exclusively plays the 2-spot for Bishop Eustace.

36. Angelo Estes, 6'8, Jr, WF, Tulsa (Booker T. Washington) OK - didn't put up great numbers, but still impressed us with his athleticism and versatility...can go inside and get his share of rebounds, but he needs to get bigger and stronger to be a power forward at the next level...also has the quickness to guard a smaller player out on the perimeter, but needs to develop more of a shooter's mentality and become more consistent on his jumper.

37. Deon Dixon, 6'8 Sr, PF, Fayetteville (Seventy-First) NC - best in the high post...very athletic...has explosive speed and quickness and when he uses it, he especially effective going to the hole... but that's the problem - he doesn't play with much intensity.  However, he does play good defense and runs the court extremely well...not big and strong enough to get it done physically in the always tough ACC...didn't play well in the first two games, but was better against Louisville (Ballard) KY, even though his numbers didn't reflect it.

38. Elijah Ingram, 5'11, Soph, PG, Jersey City (St. Anthony) NJ - the next great point guard for the legendary Bob Hurley at St. Anthony...had 21 points in his only game of the tournament...super quick in transition, gets to the basket, and has the ability to pull up and hit the mid-range jumper...good defensively and has a good feel for the game, although his assist (three) to turnover (three) ratio could be better.

39. Chas Bailey, 6'5, Sr, WF, Philadelphia (St. John Neumann) PA - has the athleticism and body to be an excellent player, but unfortunately he has not developed the skills...his forte is going to the hole and beating you in transition...he's also an excellent rebounder for his size, but his perimeter skills and outside shooting need work, so his future will be at the mid-major level.    Still, he's an excellent high school player and he usually puts up good numbers, which was evident when he had 17 points and nine rebounds versus Bayonne (Marist) NJ.

40. Tony Washam, 6'4, Sr, WF, Hockessin (Sanford) DE - was his team's leading scorer in every game of the tournament (19.0 ppg)...plays both inside and outside at this level, but at the next level, he'll be exclusively a wing...good handling skills...good hands...is more of a slasher than a shooter right now, but has the potential to develop into a good outside shooter...a mid-major talent.

41.  Marcus Austin, 6'9, Jr, PF, Elizabeth (St. Patrick's) NJ - has always been soft in the past, but finally in this tournament has shown signs of picking up the intensity level.  And when he does, you have to wonder just how good he could become...he's got long arms, explosive quickness, and a quick first step, which he uses to score inside...needs to become more consistent, as was evident in this tournament - he was great versus Fresno (Washington Catholic) WA with 17 points and 13 rebounds, but very mediocre against Sugar Land (Willowridge) TX with only seven points and three rebounds.

42. Gerry McNamara, 6'1, Soph, PG, Scranton (Bishop Hannan) PA - didn't shoot very well (only 4-15 from the floor in his only game), but ran the team to perfection, has a great feel for the game, and made his teammates better, as was evident by his eight assists versus Cape May Court House (Middle Township) NJ...ranks as the #2 player in the sophomore class in the Philadelphia/Eastern Pennsylvania/South Jersey, but if what you see is what you get, he's #1...also ranks among our top 25 sophomores nationally.

43.  Pat Carroll, 6'5, Jr, 2G, Horsham (Hatboro-Horsham) PA - one of the best shooters in the tournament, which was especially evident when hit 4-9 3-pointers against Towson (Catholic) PA...isn't as big nor is he as athletic as his older brother, Matt Carroll, who is now at Notre Dame, so playing in the right system at the next will be a must...very smart player - knows his limits and plays within himself...has a mid-major future.

44. Will Sheridan, 6'6, Frosh, Hockessin (Sanford) DE - based on performances in this tournament 9.3 ppg and 8 rpg - was the best freshman in the tournament...already is a force inside, but if he grows two or three more inches, we'll be talking about a high Division I player...surprisingly athletic and extremely mobile..excellent body... not afraid to back down from anybody inside...plays hard.

45. Darnell Hopkins, 6'1, Soph, 2G, Towson (Catholic) MD - his quickness off the dribble, size, and handling skills lead us to believe that he'll develop into a point guard down the road...and time is on his side, because he's only a sophomore... right now he's a true combo because he's got a good upper body, which he uses to get to the hole.  Projects as a top 50 sophomore nationally, but he'll need to show his outside shot in order to not get passes up later on.

46. Bruce Davis, 5'11, Sr, PG, New Castle (William Penn) DE - is a 2-guard in a point guard's body...excellent outside shooter,    but needs to work on ball handling skills and point guard mentality...excellent athlete and quick off the dribble...plays good defense, but needs to get stronger...projects at the low-to-major level...would have fit in well at Delaware, but the offer is no longer on the table.

47. Harding Ngueyepnana, 6'7, Sr, Kensington (Newport School) MD - right now is a sleeper for our 200 nationally, but the key here is potential!  He's still raw, but you have to like his upside, especially if he grows another inch or two.  As a matter of fact, a year of prep school or two years of junior college could make a big difference in where he gets recruited...excellent timing, good hops, runs the floor well, and has lots of stamina...good on the boards and very effective offensively inside, but needs to develop his mid-range game.

48. Brandon Brigman, 6'8, Jr, C, Philadelphia (St. John Neumann) PA - is a physical specimen, but like so many big guys who are ranked too high too early based on their size and potential, we're getting tired of waiting for him to become a force  inside on a consistent basis...he had 13 points and 10 rebounds versus Bayonne (Marist) NJ, but when the competition got better against Rockville (Montrose Christian) MD he disappeared.  This is easily explained by the fact that he's lazy, so the obvious question is whether his work ethic ever catch up with his skills. Right now we're hedging our bets.

49, Ryan Sonnek, 6'4, Sr, 2G, Tucson (Santa Rita) AZ - tough hardnosed white kid who does a lot of the dirty work on the perimeter...hit the game winning free throws versus Jersey City (St. Anthony) NJ...has good handling skills, but what he does best is shoot the basketball, as was evident in his first two games when he hit 8-16 3-pointers...has decent athleticism, but needs to get stronger and quicker to get recruited higher than the mid-major level.

50. Darrell Davis, 6'1, Sr, 2G, Lewes Henlopen (H.S.) DE - would get recruited at the mid-Division I level, but won't, because he lacks the size physically to compete at that level...is an excellent outside shooter, which was especially evident against Crisfield (H.S.) DE when he scored 32 points and hit 13-24 shots...also had 18 points in his first game of the tournament against Atlantic City (H.S.) NJ, so the prolific scorer tag isn't out of the question...would be a terrific get at the high D-II level or low D-I level.

51. Marcus McNeal, 6'3, Sr, Cape May Court House (Middle Township) NJ - based on potential this ranking is too high, but you can't totally disregard 24 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, which is what his numbers were against Scranton (Bishop Hannan) PA...also had 11 points and 14 rebounds against Wilmington (Howard) DE...projects as a swingman at the low Division I or high Division II level.

52. Jason Osborne, 6'7, Sr, C, Towson (Catholic) MD - power is his game, but you have to like him, because he plays within his limitations...getting Atlantic-10 looks, but really is a mid-major player, because he's at a tweener size...as a matter of fact, we list him as a center, not a power forward, because he's got the body to play in the low post and he's a back to the basket player.

53. Stanley Branch, 6'6, Frosh, PF, Atlantic City (H.S.) NJ - another excellent freshman making a major impact...this lefty has lots of athleticism and a silky smooth demeanor...a soft shooting touch from beyond the arc, but also can score inside..sky is the limit, especially if he grows some more.

54. Carmelo Anthony, 6'5, Soph, PF, Towson (Catholic) MD - along with Darnell Hopkins, promises to be one of the top sophomores in the Baltimore area...had 18 points versus Horsham (Hatboro- Horsham) PA, but he was missing in action against Lakewood (St. Edward) OH...needs to grow to get recruited at the 4-spot, but would best at the three spot, if he develops more of a shooter's mentality.

55.  Dwayne Lee, 5'11, Soph, PG, Jersey City (St. Anthony) NJ - is the perfect complement in the backcourt to 5'11 Soph Elijah Lee...gets most of his points in transition, but his forte is terrorizing opponents on defense with his speed and quickness.  That's right!  He had six steals and a block and he's only 5'11...he's also a pretty good passer.

56. Jose Gonzalez, 6'6, Jr, PF, Richland (St. Augustine) NJ - game is mid-range in and, which makes him a mobile 4-man...crafty around the basket...good rebounder and has a good feel for the game...tremendous competitor...if what you see is what you get, will project at the mid-major level.

57.  Lee Melchionni, 6'6, Soph, WF, Ft. Washington (Germantown Academy) PA - one of the smartest players in the tournament...gets the most out of ability, but also has some natural talent and a good basketball bloodline (his father played at Duke)...very skilled...good on the boards...almost too unselfish - needs to develop more of a scorer's mentality.

58. Brad Feleccia, 6'8, Jr, C, Scranton (Bishop Hannan) PA - is an excellent low post player, as was evident by his 9-10 field goals and 14 rebounds in his only game versus Cape May Court House (Middle Township) NJ on the first day...also has the ability to step out and hit the 12 foot shot...missed most of the summer due to an injury, so only now is he coming into his own.

59. Jared Woodley, 6'1, Sr, 2G, Towson (Calvert Hall) MD - is typical guard from the Baltimore area - a 6'1 quick athletic slasher who gets most of his point going to the hole...also hits the open 3-pointer, but needs to improve in that area, if he wants to get any Division I looks.

60. Teddy Williams, 6'0, Sr, 2G, Beavercreek (H.S.) OH - slow white kids do have a place in basketball if they can shoot like this guy does, as was especially evident when he hit 4-8 3-pointers and scored 25 points versus Ft. Washington (Germantown Academy) PA...limited by lack of size, but plays hard and gets the most out of his ability...is a good high school player with a D-II or D-III future.

61. Carlos Hawkins, 6'4, Sr, 2G, Wilmington (Howard) DE - is better than this ranking, but was very mediocre against Annville (Annville-Cleona) PA...he plays both the guard spots for his high school team, but what he does best is get to the basket, which is why he projects as a wing player in college...he can also pull up off the dribble from mid-range, but he needs to become a more consistent 3-point shooter...Texas A&M, James Madison, La Salle, and Rutgers are interested, but first must make it academically.

62. John Winchester, 6'3 Soph, WF, Bayonne (Marist) NJ - picked up the slack and was the leading scorer for his team in the first two games when 6'3 Rashid Dunbar was out with the flu...is an excellent scorer, because he's so effective slashing to the basket...his outside shot needs work, as was evident by this 4-19 shooting from beyond the arc.

63. Mark Linebaugh, 6'2, Sr, 2G, Annville (Annville-Cleona) PA - is a good outside shooter, but won the game versus Wilmington (Howard) DE with a key assist...plays the one, two, and three spots for his high school, but projects as a 2-guard at Colgate, which is where he committed just a few days ago.

64. Scott Greenman, 5'10, Soph, PG, Richland (St. Augustine) NJ - is ranked as the #2 sophomore point guard in Philadelphia/Eastern Pennsylvania/South Jersey by Allen Rubin and now we know why...has great savvy and excellent ballhandling skills...also impressed with his ability to score - 18 points versus Crisfield (H.S.) MD.

65. Mathew Berry, 6'5, Sr, 2G, Tulsa (Booker T. Washington) OK - is a jack-of-all-trades, but a master of none...has 3-point range, can beat his man off the dribble, and has good handling skills...signed early with Indiana State and that's about where he belongs.

66. Matt Walsh, 6'5, Soph, WF, Ft. Washington (Germantown Academy) PA - comes off the bench to prove instant offense (great outside shooter), but also gets more than his share of rebounds...has grown five inches in the last year-and-a-half and still just a sophomore!

67. Greg Caudell, 5'10 , Jr, PG, Louisville (Ballard) KY - comes off the bench as a defensive specialist, but also has been Ballard's most consistent 3-point shooter (3-4 3-pointers) in the tournament...super quick hands and feet, which was especially evident against Sugar Land (Willowridge) TX...has mid-to-high major potential due to athleticism and quickness.

68. Mark Brown, 5'10, Sr, PG, Tucson (St. Rita) AZ - small quick athletic point guard who plays good defense and makes things happen...but his lack of size, outside shooting, and turnover to assist ratio (over two turnover for every assist) will keep him from playing higher than low D-I or high D-II...does have good handling and passing skills and is excellent beating his man off the dribble.

69. Chris Rodgers, 6'2, Sr, PG, Ft. Washington (Germantown Academy) PA - assumed the point guard position when 6'0 Mike Slattery was recently injured and has risen to the ocassion, as he was one of the his team's leading scorers in every game (16.3 ppg for the tournament)...excellent leadership ability...excellent student, which should get him Ivy and Patriot League interest.

70. Tony Simmons, 6'8, Sr, C, Fayetteville (Seventy-First) NC - got into foul trouble and, as a result, failed to score versus Tulsa (Booker T. Washington) NC.  However, versus Columbia (Keenan) SC he redeemed himself, as he was his team's leading scorer with 13 points, plus he hit the game winning free throws...best in the low post, as he plays physical, draws fouls, and gets to the foul line... is a good get for Oral Roberts.

71. Greg Davis, 6'9, Sr, C, Tulsa (Booker T. Washington) OK - signed with Syracuse in the fall. but it will be a while before he sees the light of day for the Orangemen...is rail-like thin, doesn't play very hard, and is really soft...but he is 6'9 and he does have athleticism, mobility, and potential.

72. Ted Skuchas, 6'10, Soph, C, Ft. Washington (Germantown Academy) PA - did put up good enough numbers to make the list, but you can't teach height...good rebounder and shot blocker - right now his defense is way ahead of his offense...needs to get bigger and stronger.

73. Jeremy Renner, 6'7, Sr, C, Beavercreek (H.S.) OH - a good old-fashioned banger inside...needs to develop offensive post moves, because he won't be able to overpower people inside at the next level...his 6'7 size should attract the interest of some low level Division I schools.

74. Pierre Tucker, 6'5, Sr, PF, Baltimore (Dunbar) MD - was the best player on what might be the worst team in the history of the school...his game is mid-range, because he's an undersized power forward...plays hard...rebounds well...projects at the low Division I level.

75. Delbert Randall, 6'6, Sr, PF, Towson (Calvert Hall) MD - is a good blue collar player inside, as he makes his living off putbacks, hard work, and garbage inside...very limited away from the basket, which means what you see is what you're probably going to get.

76. Terrell Hicks, 6'0, Soph, 2G, Felton (Lake Forest) DE - impressed us with his outside shooting and putbacks around the basket...needs to work on his ballhandling to be an effective 2-guard at a high level, but has time - he's just a sophomore.

77.  Brian Hickey, 6'5, Sr, PF, Tucson (St. Rita) AZ - another tough hardnosed white kid for the defending state champions in Arizona...we're not sure what position he plays, because he's really a jack-of-all-trades.    However, we put him at power forward, because he was one of the best offensive rebounders in the tournament...deceptive - quicker than he looks.

78. Jamie Holden, 5'8, Sr, PG, Beavercreek (H.S.) OH - is a tough hardnosed white kid who was among the leaders in the tournament in steals...surprisingly quick off the dribble and very competitive at the defensive end, but also turns the ball over a lot...needs to work on his outside shooting and decision making...has a D-II or D-III future.

79. Shannon Davis, 6'0, Frosh, 2G, Wilmington (St. Mark's) DE - there are two reasons why Davis gets a mention:  1) he's just a freshman and 2) he's a good outside shooter, as was evident versus Georgetown (Sussex) DE when he hit 4-8 3-pointers.

80. Joseph Costis, 6'7, Sr, PF, Camden (Caesar Rodney) DE - plays hard and gets the most out of his ability, but doesn't have good hands and isn't very skilled.  As a result, has to rely on his athleticism and size.
