New Mexico may have lost out on 6'1 Cliff Hawkins from Mouth of Wilson (Oak Hill) VA and 6'6 Bernard Robinson from New Hampton (Prep) NH, but that hasn't stopped Lobos assistant coach Troy Weaver from trying to take advantage of his connections in the DC/Baltimore Area.   The latest player that New Mexico is making a push for is 6'2 Keith Jenifer from Towson (Catholic) MD.  However, right now it looks like a war, because Jenifer is also one of the top priorities for George Washington and South Carolina is still in the picture.  Everybody seems to be looking for a quality size and one of the few players who is good enough to make an impact at the high Division I level as a freshman next year is 6'9 Cory Seels from New Port Richey (Ridgewood) FL.    Right now his list includes George Mason, Providence, and Georgia State.

Iowa's recruiting class currently ranks #8 nationally by the HOOP SCOOP with 6'8 Glen Worley from Iowa City (West) IA, 6'11 Jared Reiner from Tripp (Tripp-Delmont) SD, 5'10 Brody Boyd from Dugger (Union) IN, 6'6 Courtney Scott from Lansing (Waverly) MI, and 6'9 Sean Sonderlieter from Des Moines (Christian) IA.   But the Hawkeyes could move into the #2 position behind St. John's, if they get 6'8 Reggie Evans from Coffeyville (JC) KS.  Right now it looks like the Hawkeyes are the leader!   In case you were wondering whatever happened to 6'4 Stan King from Denver (East) CO, it is our understanding that he tried to commit to Colorado State last August.  However, due to his questionable academic standing, the Rams never offered.   Instead, it looks like junior college may be in his future, but the University of Massachusetts has shown some interest.

Auburn appears to be the heavy favorite for 6'1 Soph Chad Moore from Huntsville (Lee) AL, who ranks as the #1 sophomore in the nation by the HOOP SCOOP, but Indiana assistant coach Mike Davis has close connections with the family.  Which means as long as he's an assistant at IU, the Hoosiers will be a serious contender.  This is important, because Moore will be making an unofficial visit this weekend to Indianapolis, IN to attend the Indiana-Kentucky game.  Auburn also appears to be the strong favorite for Moore's high school teammate - 6'9 Jr Duane Erwin.  However, Erwin is Marvin Stone's cousin, so Kentucky will definitely have a shot, along with UAB, Mississippi, Florida State, N.C. State, and Memphis.  Right now 6'10 Jr David Harrison from Brentwood (Academy) TN is attracting interest from schools like Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, N.C. State, Duke, Georgia Tech, and Alabama, but that list promises to get longer before it gets shorter.

How quickly things can change in the recruiting business. It's being reported that 6'7 Omar Weaver is no longer at Compton (Centennial) CA. Instead, he has transferred back to Washington (Coolidge) DC.  That is correct!  However, the word we're getting is that Weaver didn't leave of his accord, which is what Centennial High School coach Rod Palmer has publicly stated.  Apparently Weaver  ran into a problem during a scrimmage against Compton (Dominguez) CA and without going into details, the principal at Centennial, who was in attendance at the time, has asked Weaver not to return to school.   As a result, Weaver will be moving back to DC living with his legal guardian and former high school coach Willie Sanders and the entire situation appears to be a mess.  Weaver also is saying that he is reneging on his commitment to Missouri, but we think it's more likely that they are the one's who are doing the reneging.   Remember, Weaver moved to California last spring in an attempt to get his life together and hopefully become eligible to play at a four-year school next year.  Also remember, if he returns to Coolidge, almost nobody makes it academically coming out of the Washington Public School system.  As a result, Weaver can talk about Georgetown, Maryland, and Miami-FL all he wants, but I will believe it when I see it.  Two years of junior college and/or a least a year of prep school are now the most likely roads in Weaver's future.  And it's too bad, not just because Weaver has tremendous natural talent, but also because he's not a bad kid.  But he is unfortunately the product of an environment that he's so far not been unable to successfully overcome.  Obviously this will effect where Missouri's recruiting class is ranked.  Before Missouri's recruiting class was tied for second with Seton Hall, but now it's dropped into a tie for 11th with Cincinnati.
